LLC 2024: Scoring error in Match 1 between Manipal Tigers and Konark Suryas leads to shared points

Following extensive deliberation and comprehensive discussions, the Apex Council has meticulously examined the Event Technical Committee’s report regarding the scoring error that occurred during the match against Konark Suryas Odisha (KS) on September 20 at Barkatullah Stadium in Jodhpur. The Apex Council, which includes League Commissioner Ravi Shastri, Syed Kirmani, Vivek Khushalani, and Raman Raheja, approached the matter with the utmost seriousness and attention to detail.

The incident was brought to light following a formal complaint from Manipal Tigers (MT), prompting the Event Technical Committee (ETC) to initiate a thorough investigation. Under the leadership of Adrian Griffith, the Chief Cricket Operations Officer (CCOO), the ETC confirmed that an error occurred during the match, resulting in a two-run discrepancy in the Tigers’ score. Despite the Tigers raising concerns during the game, the error went undetected, preventing any timely correction. Consequently, the match concluded with a recorded score of 102/8 instead of an accurate score of 104/8.

After this thorough investigation, the outcome of the match between Manipal Tigers and Konark Suryas Odisha will remain unchanged, including the net run rate calculation, which is crucial for league standings. Both teams will receive one point each, a decision that reflects a commitment to fairness and competitive integrity. This adjustment will be duly reflected in the updated points table.

“Given that this was a genuine and accepted mistake, which was raised during play but went unaddressed by the scorer, it is evident that the points should be shared. A team should not suffer penalties for an error made by a scorer. While the rules state that results cannot be altered once umpires leave the field, this case is exceptional. The ETC’s decision should prevail to prevent similar occurrences in the future. It is imperative that common sense prevails in such situations,” stated Ravi Shastri, League Commissioner of Legends League Cricket. His statement underscores the importance of accountability and fair play in the sport, emphasizing that the league’s integrity relies on equitable treatment of all teams.

“Despite our diligent efforts to mediate a resolution that would satisfy both teams, we have been unable to reach a consensus. Therefore, after careful consideration and deliberation, the Apex Council has decided to uphold the ruling of the Event Technical Committee. The match result and the net run rate calculation will remain as is. Each team will receive one point, reflecting our commitment to fairness in the competition. While this decision may not be ideal for everyone involved, it aligns with the principles of fair play and maintains the integrity of the game. We recognize that such situations can be contentious, and we are dedicated to implementing enhanced technology and measures to prevent similar issues in the future,” the Apex Council of Legends League Cricket announced. This highlights the league’s proactive stance toward ensuring accuracy and fairness in all matches.

“Having studied the three documents in detail, it is clear that a careless mistake occurred. In the interest of fairness and respecting the game’s laws, the points should be shared equally. We must carry forward the legacy of fair play inherent in this sport, as gentlemen respect one another,” remarked Syed Kirmani, Chair of the Code of Conduct and Ethics Committee, Legends League Cricket. His remarks further emphasize the league’s commitment to upholding the spirit of the game and ensuring that all participants adhere to principles of integrity.

The league takes the spirit of the game very seriously and acknowledges the errors made during the match. The Apex Committee has decisively awarded one point to both teams to ensure complete fairness and accountability. This resolution reflects the league’s dedication to maintaining a level playing field. It serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in officiating and scorekeeping. Moving forward, the league is committed to implementing additional safeguards and technological advancements to prevent similar incidents, reinforcing its pledge to uphold the integrity of cricket at every level.
